What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Small creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly roasted grain, caramel malts, nuts, hay, rye bread, cereal. Taste is hay, roasted grain, caramel malts, rye bread, almond essence. Little bitterness. Kind of boring, but it could have been worse.

Dark amber with a disappearing off-white head. Aroma dominated by caramel with a faint roasted note. Sweet malty flavour with fruity notes and a bit of roasted character in the finish. A little more personality than the Brown, but definitely not out to hurt anyone.

Pours a clear dark amber - very toasty aroma, with a bit of earthy, leafy, almost mushroomy quality - flavor is much more dull and one-dimensional than the aroma - some toasty malt and a dry, fairly strong "Burton bite" of minerals on the tail end - some lingering toasty rye - not great, but for a bottled, pasteurized ESB from what is essentially a "macro brewer," it isn’t too bad.

Bottle. Pours clear tea amber with airy but stable off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, roast, nuts and earth. Bitter, roasty and earthy flavour, with sparse notes of hops and subtle touches of malt. High carbonation but watery mouthfeel. Bitter, metallic and earthy aftertaste. This werewolf looks rather inept, I must say. I am neither impressed nor afraid. Just bored.

Bottle, 4.5%. Fruity aroma. Clear dark amber colour. Small tan head. The flavour starts off roasted, and then turns more fruity. OK bitterness. A little grass and bread in the finish.

Big beige head. Clear deep dark red body with light carbonation. Earthy dusty roasty aroma with fruity notes. Sweetish dusty earthy perfumy taste with roasty notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish roasty perfumy candy aftertaste with bitter wooden strawy notes. Long, sharp bitter finish lingers. It’s not bad, but a bit dense and harsh. (0.33l bottle, from Meny Strømmen.)

Bottle 12fl.oz.Clear medium to dark amber colour with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, nutty, caramel, malt extract, light roasted. Flavour is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average duration, malt extract, burnt caramel - caramelized. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20131012]
