What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Bottle.Deep reddish colour with small head.Aroma is sweet of berrys and mild spicey,flavor of caramel and candy,nice medium body and good note of caramel and malt.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours clear copper with a foamy beige head. Aroma is mixed chocolate and rye spice notes. Med body, but then it thins quite rapidly. It’s ok. But not very bitter. It is dry, and arguably hoppy. Somehow it’s just not super.

330ml bottle bought at Nina’s Mini Market. Spotty lacing from an off-white head with satisfying duration. Clear dark brown body. Malt dominated nose, hints of berries. Black and brown malts to the flavour character, with a mild taste of caramel. Slightly roasted bitter aftertaste. Easy to drink. Accepted (hotel room, Edinburgh 11.08.2013).

Sample from bottle at Vectura tasting. Brown colour. Some caramel and toffee in the aroma, not unpleasant. The flavour has also caramel and toffee, but also some moderately roasty notes. A moderate but sharpish and slightly metallic bitterness in the finish. Drinkable (if for free), but not something I’d spend money on.

Bottle @ home. Pours dark amber with a offwhite head. Aroma of roasted malt, burnt caramel, spice. Flavor is malt, caramel, light chocolate notes, spice, bread. Medium body, soft carbonation. 110913

Appearance: Clear nutty brown color with a nice off white head. Ok lacing.
Aroma: Caramel malty and some roasted malt.
Palate: Medium body. Moderate sweet and a fair bitterness. Average carbonation.
Taste: Rich malty, mild hoppy, roasted malt and mild toffee.
Overall impression: Unusual premium bitter. But tasty!

Flaske fra Ica Støperigaten: innbydende farge og skum, men hvorfor gir aromaen meg assosiasjoner til svart te? Ganske god smak med overraskende lang ettersmak, men allikevel en ubestemmelig helhet. Hadde den ikke vært såpass tørr hadde den minnet meg om norske butikkjuleøl.
