What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Bottle. Roasty tea and toast aroma. Clear copper with a small ivory head. Roasty malt, toast, and light roasty bitterness. Medium body and carbonation. Nothing special, but I wouldnโt mind it with pizza.

Refrigerated clear amber with reddish hue and medium off-white head. Little lacing, medium body, little carbonation, and light herbal hop aroma. Taste is caramel malt and herbal hop finish. Not bad.

12 ounce bottle. Dark amber, brown color topped by a medium-sized beige head. Interesting nutty toasted malt nose hints at pecans and toasted rye bread. First sip has a a spicy toasted malt character,some peppery hops. More "bite" than the traditional Brown Ale. Brief dryish finish is pleasant.

Bottle as shown. Pours a clear amber with a small beige head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is raisin malt and berry. Thin mouthfeel with sweet malt and caramel. Easy to drink a good ESB from Newcastle.

This is a Halloween prank right? Someone filled the bottles with spoiled liquid brew found in the bottom of trash containers in mid-summer, right? Because you canโt convince me that the sickening caramel, horrid berry that clashes against the putrid bitterness was actually a beer designed and brewed by someone who said "yes, quite right old chap, letโs bottle this." Unless of coures that person is a psychopath, or a werewolf. I forced my way through 3/4 a bottle and actually threw up in my mouth. Iโm not making that up.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a red-amber color with a medium sized foamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was pepper and cola. The flavor was bitter and sour pepper, cola and nut. Medium finish and medium body. Underwhelming.

From tap at Sunset Grill. Pours clear and golden orange with a small, creamy and white head. Aroma is faint roasted malty aroma. Caramelish, breadish and light toffee dry malty flavoured. Light bitter and dry malty into the finish.

On tap at the Lockhouse 6 in industry. Pour is a nice glowing pale yellow. appearance with a thin creamy head. The aroma is a little volatile and very apparent, makes me think of sweet paint thinner, but in an attractive way. There is very little if any carbonation in this brew. The flat taste comes across like homemade dago white wine with a little water added. Even tho it lacks CO2 and its winelike, there are few badd attributes to this beer. Finish is easy and overall the brew was not too bad.

Clear deep light brown coloured body, like a cola, with a lighter bottom than top and a very thin, half centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of a pure ashtray - smoke, put out cigarette butts and perhaps a touch of caramel and malt - but really just an ashtry - seriously, smell it. Light-bodied; Pungent smokey and light everything flavour with a touch of malt and earth and very little else. Aftertaste of smoke and bitter metallic notes - nothing good at all. Overall, a pretty horrid beer, nothing going well with this at all and pretty bad tastes throughout. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 09-October-2011 for US$1.79 sampled at home in Washington on 21-October-2011.

Location: Draft at Wicked Wolf in Hoboken, 9/28/11
Aroma: The nose is sweet and malty, rather light, with caramel and toast notes
Appearance: This one pours a mostly clear copper-red color with a foamy beige head
Flavor: The taste is what you'd expect from the nose, medium sweet, and not too much bitterness
Palate: The body is faily light (leaning medium), and the mouthfeel is clean with average carbonation
Overall Impression: I guess Wicked Wolf got excited when they saw Wolf in the name of a beer and couldn't resist offering it on tap. This beer was pretty much what I expected. It is very "Newcastley." That's pretty much the best way to describe it.
