On tap at Pony Bar. Poured a clear deep amber with a frothy white head that dissipated to the edges and laced slightly. Aroma had a good amount of dark fruit with notes of yeast, bread and a hint of alcohol. Flavor was similar with dark and stone fruits, bread, yeast and candied sugar and a hint of alcohol in the finish.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 3/3/11

Aroma: A rather sweet aroma of overripe dark fruits, caramel, plum, sugar, and a touch of booze
Appearance: It pours a dark mahogany-like (reddish-brown) color with a small off-white head
Flavor: It is medium-heavy sweet, with fruity flavors and caramel malts, no detectable hops
Palate: The body is fairly full with a rich and malt feel, and pretty much no alcohol burn at all
Overall Impression: This is a pretty interesting beer. It's rather complex, but at the same time, it isn't really what I expect from this style. It certainly leans sweet, that is for sure. As it warms, the booze come out a bit to balance out the fruit, but there is still pretty much no perceivable burn. An interesting one for sure.

Bottle, c&c, from Half Time. Pours dark brown with copper notes and a transient foamy beige head. Aroma is dark and grapey. Med. plus body w/foamy carb. Flavor is grapey/malty with a light spice, It even has a bit of cola. It’s quite a different approach. It’s a really good ale. Westvletteren it’s not, but it is recognizable to the style. But quite a variation!!!

Corked and caged 750. Pours a massive head with just a little bit of medium/dark brown liquid at the base. As the head recedes, it leaves a nice pattern on the side of the glass. Aromas consist of a kind of dusty mix of generic fruit scents and a little bit of a clove and cheese edge. Flavor is pretty nice, but a bit thin on the palate. Lots of brown sugar, dates and figs, a bit of cherry and banana and a little bit of clove or something mildly spicy. That said, it’s kind of thin on the tongue and doesn’t have much of a lingering flavor apart from the sweet and alcoholic burn in the finish. Good stuff, to be sure, but needs a little more stickiness to make me totally happy.

A clear dark brown ale with a thin moka head. A sweet nutty malt aroma. In mouth, a sweet oily malt with cloves, cinnamon, nice and pleasant. Medium bodied. Bottle at BCTC 2009.

Sweet and malty. Lots of fruit and belgian yeast. There is salt, and the palate is very thick and heavy, with a gritty character that works with the beer. Some dried fruit flavor and Belgian yeast, as well as sugar.

Bottle shared by someone at Woodshop Quad. Nose is light amounts of dark fruits and molasses. Brown with a small beige head. Way too sweet with raisins.
