We’re not saying we made The Perfect Lager. But we did make a Lager: Short Sands. Lagers take time and careful consideration. We’ve been working on Short Sands for years – calculating the ideal balance of floral and fruity, malty and toasty. Clean, crisp esters from a low and slow fermentation, classic German malts and noble hops for the barest touch of malt sweetness. A pressurized tank during fermentation produces natural carbonation and here we are. The perfect can size (12 oz), available all year long from wherever you get your good beer. Maybe it is The Perfect Lager?

Tavour can: pours gold with white head. Aroma is vaguely grainy. Beer that smells like beer as a grandmother understands it. Taste is relatively sweet. Bitterness relatively low. Uneventful.

Can from Tavour. Pours clear bright gold with a moderate white head. Aroma of grain and florality. Near med body. Malty but not too sweet. Enough bitter for balance. Flavor is grainy and floral/grass.

Can from Epicurean Trader in Mission/SF, drunk while cooking caramelized onions and salmon. Light haze in amber beer, huge lacy head. Faintly sweet grainy nose. Flavor is a hint sour, it's pleasant but very odd in a Helles style lager, whoops! Most likely infected? Or Sauermalz. But at least if off, it's in a nice farmhouse way. Pretty tasty overall.

12oz can from New Colony. Clear golden pour, small foamy white head, lively carbonation. Grainy, bready aroma, dough. Taste is malty, biscuity, full with a nice hop snap towards the finish. Zippy.
