Tried in bottle from Cotteridge. Hazy mid brown colour with a thin white head. Aroma is malty, dark fruit, caramel. Taste is spicy and sweet.

Bottle at Brauhaus. Appearance - deep brown with a decent head. Nose - nuts, toffee and that tangy Belgian yeast thing. Taste - more of the same, maybe some marzipan. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a long dry tangy finish. Overall - a better representation of the style than patersbier or the blonde.

330ml bottle from Beer Gonzo. Pours deep brown with off-white cream head. Aroma is familiar sweet dubbel yeast, taste perhaps concentrates less on the sweetness and more on grainy malt, umami even, salty and faint smoked ham. That dubbel yeast is there but not as dominating as, say, La Trappe Dubbel. Metallic aftertaste. It’s not a bad effort, would certainly like to see a follow-up.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark brown pour with a creamy tan head, aroma has malt loaf and some dark fruits, taste has sweet caramel, dark fruits, some spice, very sweet, candied fruits.

Bottle. Eebria. Clear, copper colour. Film of off white head. Nose is all banana esters, toffee and sweet malts. Notes of vinous, tangy, dried fruit. Taste is sweet, turning mild, fruity bitter. Smooth mouthfeel. A tad syrupy, maybe. Tangy hop bitterness comes through at the end. Not my favourite style, and not a style I know much about, but this felt pretty authentic. Tasty, and easy drinking.

Bottle. Milky amber/brown body with a thin off-white head. Faint lacing. Aroma of dirt, brown bread and stewed tea. Flavour of dried leaves, tangy orange peel, herbs and two-day old tea. Steely bitterness on the finish. Medium body with a powdery mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Very tangy and earthy - no balance or warmth whatsoever. Hugely disappointing.

Keg at Buxton Tap, Buxton, Derbyshire, Saturday 20th February 2016 in company of Dad, Pauline, Isobel and Berry. Pours hazy brown with an off-white head, some banana on the nose, spicy, yeasty nose. Warming in the mouth, soft mouthfeel, fruity with some sticky dates, a little tiny bit of mint, very good interpretation of a Belgian Dubbel. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8
