Bottle shared at Leightons place 21/03/2016. Many thanks to Colin for this one. Hazed caramel, brown coloured pour with a lasting frothy cream coloured head. Aroma is soft toffee malts, some caramel, wheat, some orange rind, Belgian yeast notes. Flavour is composed of toffee, unrefined sugars, muscovado sugar, orange rind, Belgian phenol. Bitter burnt sugar on finish. Palate is highish carbonation, semi sweet, frothy, medium bodied. Drying grainy finish. Quite enjoyable.

Bottle thanks to Loin Cloth. It pours cloudy amber with medium yellow white head. The aroma is sweet, soft toffee malt, fruity, varnish, plum, nectarine, brioche, jammy, Bakewell tart, marzipan and bready action. The taste is quite bitter, earthy, chewy malt, wood, leather, touch of warming alcohol, toasted brown sugar and Earth with slick soft toffee finale. Medium body and fine carbonation. A bit rougher round the edges than I had hoped for.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Cloon. Pours like soft toffee into the class - hazy golden-brown, with a creamy tan head. Grainy toasted bread in the nose, which brings to mind soft toffee malts, along with earth, orange peel. Medium sweet flavor with some sugary bread, gooey soft toffee malts, impressions of cocoa, toasted grains, caramel. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation; feels like soft toffee on the palate. Lightly warming in the finish with further toasted malts, husky grains, light earth, soft toffee malts, caramel. Pretty tasty overall.

Bottle at Bespin from the Gonzo, 21/03/16. Hazed orange amber with a moderate light beige covering my Nose is caramel, sweet malt, light spice, fruit loaf. Taste comprises burnt sugar, spice, fruit loaf, marzipan, toffee. Medium body, fine carbonation, light alcohol injection at the curtain call. Ok if a touch harsh in places ... was hoping for more soft toffee malts.

Bottle. Nose is plums, brown sugar, bread, apples, spice, fruit loaf. Taste is cola, brown sugar, plums, prunes, toffee, bread leading to a spicy, slightly bitter note in the finish. Further sips gives hints of chocolate, and a touch of orange peel Dubbel is a vastly under appreciated style, in part because so many of the beers are poor, cloying and over sweet; particularly those brewed in the UK. This is a well balanced example, with depth and subtlety.
