An awesome & cool new collaboration between Tanker (EST) and Hiisi (FIN). Hiiepuu is a mahogany-colored ale brewed with heather, juniper berries & meadowseet and fermented with a blend of Sacch. Bruxellensis and a Belgian saison yeast, which come together and lend an interesting mix of aromatics to the herbal ingredients. Malty, biscuity, spicy and herbal, this is a great beer to help prep for the winter months.

18/12/2020. Bottle courtesy of Mart, cheers! Best before 4/10/2017 so wasn't sure what it would be like particularly given it's low scores when it was fresh. Poured dark amber bronze with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma of toffee, fruit, red berries, light herb and spice, yeast, banana, raisins and biscuit. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Enjoyed this. Can a Gruit mature and improve with age? Apparently so.

Bottle at Beermalade. Lots of sweetness, making it somewhat out of balance, lacking counterpart. Only very light spruce, ihlicie, honeyish, forest honey. Good, but not great.

Tap at Tommyknocker, Helsinki. Colour is slightly cloudy brown with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Bread, some harshness, spices, dryness, some sourness and some malts. Weird and actually very hard to drink.

Draught @ Tommyknocker. Poured mahogany color with a thin white head. Aroma has herbal notes, rubber, red berries. The sourness in both aroma and flavor is nice. Lingonberries, herbs and the thing I associate with rubber in flavor as well. Lingonberries with sugar in finish. Mixed feelings.

33cl bottle from Sip, Tallinn. Pours slightly hazy dark golden without much head to speak of. Herbal aroma with forest notes, berries and hints of malt. Moderate sweet and rather herbal with a fairly mild bitterness. Not quite my kind of beer, but interesting enough.

(Keg at Kaisla, 20161226) The beer dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, caramel, spiciness and juniper. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, spiciness, juniper and bitterness. Aftertaste was spicy, sweet and bitter. A weird spicy mess.
