Firsthand accounts describe an intense beast with a potent aroma and bite. Proof that the elusive monster exists? Or proof that brewing with five distinct varieties of hops creates an unbelievable, relentlessly hopped India Pale Ale? One taste and you’ll know, Swamp Ape is for real.

Poured up on tap at the Tampa Pour House with clear deep gold body and copper core as well as a nice lasting tan head. The modest aroma offers up tangelo-grapefruit flavored cotton candy, pears, peach fuzz, tropical mango like notes and faint maltiness. It seems to have a solid IPA aroma but only fair for an IIPA. The taste is both sweet and moderately bitter with sweet maltiness followed quickly by citrus and tropical fruit like hop flavor that rolls into some hop bitterness. By about midway subtle boozy notes and slightly soured citrus are noticed that aid in drying this out into the finish. Like the aroma this is a darn tasty IPA but rather timid IIPA.

An amber ale with a thin white head. Aroma of fruity esters, caramel, not much hops. In mouth, a nutty rosted malt, with peaty notes, British hops, not bad, but not a DIPA. On tap at Willards, Jan 5 2011.

On the humanistic scale and I hate IPA. Perfectly on style and on tap at the house of beers. Not a real strong IPA arome, hides the initial manly surprise. Nasty nelly initial oily blast. Creamy head. Big, strong and over the top, wew. Makes my tongue go dull and numb. Mouth coating shock turn me into a little girly beer geek. Linger? For many terrible days.

32 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is mango and citrusy fruity, light herbal. Flavour too is dominated by aromatic hops, light sweetness and crisp bitterness joining in. Ends dry yet with a crisp fruity impression.

on tap-pours an off white head and gold color. aroma is herbal/metallic, secondary medium malt. taste is herbal/metallic hops bite, secondary sweet medium malt-caramel, which is overtaken by the hops bite in the finish. OK carbonation.
