Bottle @ Aarhus tasting. Hazy reddish amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dark sugar and dried fruit. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish. Oily and smooth. 111213

Bottle. Slightly hazy dark amber/brown with small beige head. Aroma is malt, caramel, toasted, bread and a little candy. Flavour is malt, caramel, sweet, toasted, little nut, little candy and a little bit bitter.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/22/2013. Pours slightly cloudy reddish copper color with a 2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Slight foamy lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, pear, apple, raisin, toast, brown bread, floral, toffee, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, toast, molasses, raisin, pear, apple, brown bread, floral, light pepper, toffee, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, raisin, pear, brown bread, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of malt flavors with moderate fruity esters; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly creamy and slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice doppelbock style. All around nice balance and complexity of malt flavors with moderate fruitiness; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Total Wine & More, Chantilly 12oz ($2.99): Pours a reddish colour with very little head. Aroma is heavily into the dark fruit aspect. I can tell this is going to be hella sweet. It is in fact pretty sweet. Has a kind of dry finish. Mild lingering doppelbock aftertaste. Pretty good balance overall. Harder to drink than some of my favourite examples of the style. Not bad.

Bottled at Akkurat, Stockholm. Clear mahogany colour, small head. Rich and deep caramelly crystl malt character with slight notes of lingonberry. Medium-full bodied with soft mouthfeel. Rich, yet gentle. Some spicy hops to compliment the rich malt. Warming finish.

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with caramel, chocolate, dark fruit and wort. Malty taste with notes of chocolate, wort, raisins, dark bread and a mild, spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, slightly sweetish, but quite well balanced. Nice one.
