One of Scotland’s favourites thanks to its distinctive and full-bodied flavour. Pale malt gives satisfying ‘Horlicks’ maltiness and black malt adds balance to the sweetness. Challenger provides the bitterness and base note herbal hop character with Goldings adding a hint of orange peel.

Cask at The Gordon Highlander, Inverurie. 75p for a a half! It pours clear mahogany brown with a decent frothy white head. The aroma is sweetish, toffee, dried fruits, brown bread, fruit cake and twig. The taste is dryish upfront, firm, bitter - sweet, dusty, dull toffee, brown bread, twiggy and leafy hop. Finish is short, dry and kinda woody. Light body and soft, but lively carbonation. I actually expected a fair bit worse. Yes it's not the most exciting beer in the world, but it is certainly quenching. Nae bad (especially for the price).

On cask at Golden Acorn (JDW) in Glenrothes - Clear brown body, long lasting creamy head. Malty and nutty on the nose, sweetish malt at the start, bit of grassiness and fruit, quite decent.

Adding in my 300 Beers To Try ticks because I want to see how they impact my stats and some of them I will never see again. Will however re-rate them when practical. Winerack, West Byfleet. Bought a mixed box for a BBQ so I could tick this.
