A light golden beer with a big personality, bursting with fruity hop flavours, citrus notes and a refreshing finish.

First brewed as a seasonal special in 2004, this marvellously refreshing beer joined the Oakham core range in 2008.

Oakham’s brewing team have been visiting the USA hop fields for many years in search of the best quality hops. Inferno’s unique flavour comes from five carefully selected hop varieties from the Yakima Valley – Sterling, Amarillo, Centennial, Cascade and Chinook.

Bottle from Prešporská Pivotéka. Clear yellow colour, small white head. Aroma of hops, citrus fruits and floral. Taste is medium to light heavy bitter, touch of acidic. The finish is bitter, quite long and smooth, hops all the way. Very good drinkability.

50 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 04.03.2011
Aroma is hoppy with grapefruits and some hay. Flavour is rather hoppy with grapefruits, hints of citrus, hay and grainy malt. Quite basic golden ale, where everything is like they should be. Still, this is quite easy to forget like beers in this style usually are.

Out of date bottle: drank 8th Apr 2012, best before 6th Jan 2012. Bottle calms 4.4%ABV. Very light body and a good white head sat on the beer as it was poured into my Abbot Ale glass tankard. Like the cask version the aroma is citrus hoppy, with Oakham’s distinctive yeast culture sitting behind. Again like the cask beer the lemon citrus smells are within the taste too, not many malt flavours found but I thought this had more depth than the weaker cask one. The 4.4% ABV sits nicely, good carbonisation and an all round fine bottled beer.

Bottle from Tesco.
Appearance Straw colout, bit hazy, 1 finger white frothy head, little lacing.
Aroma Fairly strong aroma of citrus hops, grapefruit, resin, some grassy hops, floral notes, bit zesty, hint of orange, fresh aroma, quite complex.
Taste Emphasis on citrus hops, some resin and grass, grapefruit, sweet light malt (not much), acidic and bitter.
Palate Soft carb, quite dry and puckering, fairly strong citrus finish, cleans quite well, slight oily, medium to thin body.
Overall Well made citrus golden ale, good taste for 4.4%, perhaps a bit over dry and needs some more malt. Not a hop bomb like a west-coast American IPA.

500ml Bottle - Golden with a slight haze and a white head. Hoppy aroma with pineapple, grapefruit and lemon detected. The taste is bitter, hoppy and tangy with more notes of pineapple and grapefruit and some earthy and yeasty elements. Nice one.
