BATCHES
Batch #1 (5.2% ABV) gebotteld op 19-12-2017.

Batch #3 (5.5% ABV) gebotteld op 30-09-2020.
Batch #4 (5.7% ABV) gebotteld op 27-10-2021.

Bottle. Golden color. Peach, citrus and earthy notes in the aroma. Soft sour flavor with lemon and peach. Bready notes, herbal, earthy. Peculiar but nice.

One of Nevel's flagship sours, a blend of several sour ales including a sourdough-fermented 'kvass' (fermented 'bread juice' from an ancient Russian tradition) and spiced with wormwood. Bottle from Gedeelde Vreugde, shared with my girlfriend, Erwin and Ama Deke. Thinnish, egg-white, quickly opening and eventually completely dissolving head, cloudy apricot blonde robe with ochre-ish tinge. Aroma of green grapes, sour apples, sourdough (possibly the kvass component), dry white wine, old lemon zest and indeed some dried southernwood (rather than absinthe wormwood), cucumber, cider, hint of chalk. Tart onset, green plum, some grape peel and gooseberry but not harshly acidic, light sweetish peachy core, soft carb, dryish yet juicy body; a soft bready malt 'soil' carries the fruity tartness along to a zesty and yeasty finish, clear sourdough effects mingling with a lemony (again, southernwood more than typical absinthe wormwood) edge as well as a chalky note. Lots of estery fruitiness lingering, softly tart and refreshing. Softish, elegant sour, more complex than it seems, with a high degree of drinkability - this must be exactly what the guys from Nevel were after. Glad I tasted this.

375ml bottle, many thanks David for this! Pours a glowing unclear orange, small white head. Very light floral nose. Taste is immediately herbal, nettley, floral with a spiky bitterness, underpinned by a light breezy wild yeast sweetness. Some earthy beet notes with nutty whisky honey notes emerging as it warms. A little thin bodied. Generally quite an earthy, herbal blend with interesting wild yeasty moments and an appealing depth of character.

Freezing Midtown tasting, thank you MonsterMagnet for sending me this beer! Cloudy straw pour with some white foam one the top. Nice tart nose, farmhouse barnyard thing, funky for sure. Tastes herbal and has some interesting earthy thing there that makes it unique. Fruity and slick a bit, nice dry and short finish.

Interesting, weird. Beets, earthy breadishness, little bit herbal and lightly tart. Some wood. I really appreciate the craftsmanship gone in creating it, and it's a great product. Just personally don't really like the flavours.

On tap at Luppolo Station in Rome. Muddy amber pour with a medium-low off-white cap. Nose: bread crumb, yeasty, pungent although soft sourness, citric a bit. Mouth is esile, thin, easy...especially not mirroring the aroma somehow. Medium-low tartness.

On tap @Luppolo Station (Rome). Ambrata, torbida, schiuma bianco sporca media, non molto persistente. Al naso note di pane, pasta lievita, limone, stalla. In bocca è equilibrata, morbida, con acidità leggera. Corpo medio, carbonazione medio-bassa. Molto buona.

37,5 cl. bottle shared with Suus and Hilde @ Alex and Suus. Hazy dark golden/ very light amber with virtually no head. Tart aroma with some earthen notes and a vinous touch. Taste is tart as well with an earthy finish. Quite complex and I do think a taster isn't enough to fully understand this elegant layered beer. Very nice.
