Named after a warlike tribe of ancient Britains, the Silures made a fierce resistance to the Roman conquest around AD 48. This powerfully hopped, beer is testament to their skill and strength of character. Brewed with sweet Caramalt and Maritime Spruce tips in the percolator, Silures delivers delicious tropical fruit flavours with a hint of pine needles. Robust and thoroughly rewarding.

Bottle from Oddbins. Appearance - slightly cloudy golden with a big frothy head. It doesn’t say anything about this being bottle conditioned but it very much resembles that. Nose - the malt has a layer of flowers and some dried orange peel. Backbone is of cake mixture. Taste - big tangy dried apricot or orange with a burnt raisin finish. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - good beer.

500ml bottle shared with Ashton McCobb. Pours clear amber, big white head. Big pine aromas, citrus, dried mixed peel. Caramel malt backbone. Taste has big hop bitterness, light toffee sweetness, slightly sweaty, but in a good way. Creamy texture. Finish has a pleasing lemon bitterness. Good.

Almost clear deep gold beer with a good white head. Palate starts smooth and light but has a crisp trailing edge. Smooth light pale malt. Little lactose sweetness. Minerally crisp bite introduces citric hop bitterness. Orange, orange peel and sweet and sour lemon. Finishes smooth. A tad too much lactose but overall a tasty beer.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; clear golden pour with white head, citrus aroma, sweet malt and citrus taste of honey, this would be lovely on a summers afternoon, a shame it’s autumn a revisit.

Had this at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury, Bucks, Tuesday 22nd October 2013 Pours mid amber, slim white head. Far better than I expected, very fruity, plenty of hops, thrusty bitterness across the roof of the mouth. Quite impressive. A7 A3 T8 P4 Ov14 3.6
