On tap @ the brewpub. This rating is based on the 2016 Vintage barrel edition. Brewed in 2013 and aged in whisky barrel for nearly three years. For me this stands out as a completely different version of this beer, barrel edition and a bit higher in alcohol, but I will just split the ratinging within the same rating for the moment.
Slightly unclear dark golden body with a fair off-white head. Aroma is light and mild malt with a pleasant hint of smoke. Flavor is smooth, soft malt, toast, light caramel, dry fruit, balanced bitterness and balancing smoke with smoked ham. Fine balanced body and pleasant aftertaste. For me this is a perfect version of a smoked beer, not too intense but pronounced and balanced. Super smooth and really pleasant.
On tap @ the brewpub 2013. Hazy golden body with a rather small but dense off-white head. Quite mild aroma with distinct but light smoke and cured meats. Flavor is light malty, quite fruity, cured meats and not too intense smoke with moderate bitterness. It’s probably just naturally to compare with the famous Schlenkerla, this is lot more fruity and less smoked in flavor. Actually I prefer the smoked part to be less dominating in a lighter type of beer like this and normally find Schlenkerla too intense. Still not my favorite type of beer, but I find this one quite pleasant and it will probably go fine together with most of the dishes from the restaurant. 6-3-7-3-13

On tap at the brewpub. It pours a hazy, dark golden body and a small, off-white head. Lots of smoked ham on the nose, with a solid dose of fruityness. Tropical fruits. Quite fruity flavor too, with the ham-like smoke playing a big part. Low on bitterness, but that’s only good. Medium body, semi-sweet. Fruity, smoked finish. A nice smoked one indeed, but there’s not many that can compete with Schlenkerla. 130329
