Traquair's orignal draught ale was bottled for the first time in 1996 and is increasingly popular amonst those looking for lighter ale with the unique Traquair flavour. A rich amber coloured ale with hints of oakiness and strong malty flavours.

Bottle from Scottish Real Ale shop. Brown colour, thin off-white head. Nose is caramel malts, toffee and fruits. Flavour is caramel malts, little toastiness, fruits, bit hoppy. Not much going on in this one. Dry and slightly bitter finish.

Re-rating, quite savoury this time, even salty and bran flakes. Previous rating 21/06/11 5/3/5/11 = 2.7 50cl bottle courtesy of Blairgus. Pours a dark honey colour. The nose has /h/oney and cornflakes. The taste has malt and honey. The palate is medium bodied with a medium texture and a finish that drops off but still has a malt note that persists too long. Overall, not a bad session ale, but not inspiring.

cask at Guildford Arms a couple months ago - Pours red with a lingering off white head and a caramel malt aroma. The flavor is sweet caramel malt dominated with a hint of fruit and nuts. It’s decent, but like so many ales I tried on this trip it strikes me as average.

500ml bottle from Peckhams, Glasgow. Dark amber in colour with reddish hints and a decent, off-white head. Nutty aroma with caramel sweetness and some red fruit. Big flavours of roasted malts, caramel, a touch of wood and some hoppiness, before a decent bitter finish. Good.

Bottle. It pours a clear, amber body with a small off-white head leaving some lacings. Roasted malt, some coffee and chocolate, a little hops and something reminiscent of oxidation in the aroma. Caramel too. Full-bodied and sweet, with caramel, roasted malt giving some coffee and chocolate, and a hoppy fruityness and bitterness. The finish is much the same, both hops and malts doing their job. Quite a nice one, but doesn’t stand out. (081025)

500ml bottle from Utobeer. Malty ESB. Clear deep russet colour with thin beige head. Coffee and dry malt and deep red fruit aroma. Something berry-ish about it, hedgerow/herb. I want to say juniper berries. It has this hardness to it, from what? The water, the pasteurisation/filtration? Lots of dry malt and not a great ESB, but still fine.

Sample at Aarhus beerfestival. Medium head with medium duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are malt, hops and caramel. Bitter finish. Reminds me more of an esb than an old ale.
