This dark pilsner has, over the years, become a clear sign that Christmas is upon us. The annual launch in Denmark, known as 'J-day', takes place the first Friday in November and is a day of celebration across Denmark. Carlsberg employees drive around in truck to visit bars and cafés while singing the traditional Tuborg Christmas Brew song and handing out free beer to the guests to mark the start of the festive season.
The beer itself is a bottom-fermented wiener beer brewed on lager, münchener and caramel malt, and added English liquorice. The beer is dark-golden with a fresh aroma of caramel, cereal, liquorice and blackcurrant.

Had this some years ago. Red brown color with small white head. Roasted malt, caramel. Taste, pretty the same. Strong alcohol feeling in beginning. Bad.

Clear amber with a white head. Aroma is faint with caramel and a light spicyness. Flavor is light sweet and light bitter. Drinkable. Back in high school this used to be my absolute favorite beer. The Danish beer market has sure changed a lot in those 15 years. 211110

Bottle in Spoons as ’Tuborg Christmas Brew’. Clear brown beer. Light crisp palate. A lot of uninteresting malt. A trace of hop. The Danes can do bland as well as the Brits!

Bottle in Bulgaria. Pours clear, light amber with a fluffy, white head. Grainy malt aroma with some faint alcohol. Flavor has some nice heft but is still a bit dull: cereal malts and light sugar. Light to medium in body with average carbonation. A touch warming to finish, more malts and only mild hints of bitterness. Not at all offensive. Good enough.

Rating this from memory as I can’t see myself ever drinking this again, no so much for the flavour but the hangover it gave was murder. Chemical nastiness. My missus used to like the idea of a seasonal brew and always regretted it

330ml bottle at Berlin Bar in Copenhagen. Crystal clear, dark brown body. Fragile lacework from a beige foamy head. Smooth fruity aroma. Caramel malts and notes of dried fruits in flavour. The hops do not come through, and the brew gets way too sweet and bland on the swallow, however, on of the best I have had so far from Tuborg (on the release day, 05.11.2010).

On tap in Copenhagen. Amber color, bread, watery, no Christmas-feeling at all. A sweet and boring beer.
