Escarpment Labs provided us a very special strain of Brettanomyces that’s used in a cult classic Belgian beer that maybe, perhaps, also features a ring in the mouth of a water dwelling animal on the bottle. Buval has a twinkling texture of toasty toffee, aromas of light citrus, clove, and a bright hop finish (100% whole leaf dry-hopped). If you’re a fan of hop-forward or funky Belgian-style beers then you’ll love Buval. Monk robes not required.

375ml bottle. Pours a cloudy orange gold with a large, frothy, long lasting, off-white head that leaves thick, soapy curtains of lace. Aroma of bready pale malt, Brett, Belgian yeast, banana, pear, lemon, clove and herbal hops. Sweet fruity flavour of bready pale malt, pineapple, orange, vanilla, Brett, black pepper, Belgian yeast, clove, bubble gum and piney hops in a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation.

Hazy pale amber. Thick head. Aroma is herbal, with lots of bitterness. Light fruitiness, almost minty. Good malt base.

Bottle pour at Farmhouse Fest 2023, pours a clear bright golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out old earthy notes, rustic farmhouse notes, and old furniture. Flavour is full of old furniture, rustic farmhouse notes, and earthiness. Lots of old furniture and earthiness. Pleasant.

A taster shared with Josh, Matt, Phill, and Ryan during FHF with priceless Rachel's (yup, again!) help in organizing all the mess with glasses. Appearance: a bit hazy pale golden with a white head. Aroma: herbs, bubble gum, some bugs. Taste: same, peppery, bitter finish. Overall: good.
