The intense, roasted malt flavor is derived from two types of chocolate malt and raw cocoa nibs. Whole vanilla beans, introduced post-fermentation, adds complexity and enhances the dessert-like qualities.

Bottle. Pours clear ruby black with a small tan head that dissipates quickly with some lacing. Aroma is roasty, ashtray, cocoa. Flavor is much the same, medium sweet with a definite milk-chocolate overtone touch of vanilla, light bitterness, not enough to counteract the sweetness fully. A bit artificial tasting, actually. Medium body. Definitely drinkable, but nothing special here.

Bottle. Pours black with off white head. Nose/taste of cocoa, banana, chocolate malt and vanilla. Slight orange cream. The chocolate in the nose is a bit artificial, but not in the taste. Medium body.

On draught at Heroes Bar & Grill. Dark chestnut brown pour with a medium beige head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing. Roasty aroma with notes of chocolate, malt and coffee. Medium, smooth body with sweet chocolate malt character and notes of vanilla and coffee. The finish is malty with a mocha aftertaste. Above average overall.

Bomber from Beverages 4 Less. Pours pretty dark brown with a 4 finger foamy tan head. Aromas of chocolate and coffee. Med body. Flavor is chocolate with some vanilla, followed by a touch of coffee. There’s also some fairly burnt malt - which is marginally less than smooth. It’s smoothly chocolatey sweet, but there’s enough bitter here to pretty well balance that. It’s quite tastey.

Excessively large (for the ABV) sample on tap (16ozs). Pours with a somewhat murky deep brown body with a tan head that lasts pretty well. Aromas of chocolate, malty, grainy, brown sugar, bread. Low hop aroma. Mostly clean (very light esters). Flavors of bitter chocolate. Decently bitter overall as well. Dry, malty, bready and toasty. Light roast that is on the chocolate side (rather than the more coffee to acrid flavors). Medium to full bodied, medium carbonation. Lightly warming. No astringencies. Decent.

1 liter growler thanks Tim, pours dark ruby brown with a medium light brown head. Aroma is light cocoa nib and coffee with mild roast. Flavor is rich bitter cocoa, some toffee and a rich roasted malt and coffee finish. Well done, crazy that it’s 8 percent.
