22 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of mainly espresso and some bitter roasted malt. Flavour is more sweet than the nose suggests, with espresso, balanced by sweetened chocolate. Very light body for a stout, with light-to-medium complexity. Solid.

Bottle shared by someone at Oakquinox. Pours with a near black body and an off-white head. Aromas are vegital, espresso, coffee, earthy and chocolate. Flavors are a touch sour, thin, watery, coffee, earth. Very watery, thin, light bubbles. Could be the start of an infection.

Sample from bottle at Jackie O’s BBDA and Oil of Aphrodite Release and Barrel aged Beer Festival on 9/11/10. This beer pours black with a medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing. Roasted coffee and malt in the nose. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee. The finish is roasty with a short moderately bitter coffee aftertaste. Overall a pretty tasty beer in spite of the lower ABV compared to similar brews.

Poured from 22 oz bomber I picked up while on vacation in Portland, OR. I’ve heard stories about this brewmaster leaving Flossmoor Station in Illinois to start this brewery, and after drinking I wish we had him back in IL! Aroma is uber-desserty, extremely rich in dark milk chocolate and coffee, roasty. Appearance is pure black with a tan creamy head. It’s not too sweet for the amount of chocolate that I’m sure is in it, also has a great complexity of coffee and milk. I’m really liking this sweet stout.

Bottle. Good coffee aroma, subtle hint of grassy hops. Black colour. Nice stable dark brown head. The flavour has a distinct coffee flavour. Clean and mild, yet flavourful. Some cream also. Late roasted coffee aftertaste.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours black with a creamy dark tan head. Smells like coffee. Medium body with sharp, creamy carbonation. Tastes like coffee. Chocolate note. Smooth. Mild bitterness from malt and coffee. Tastes pretty good. Develops some espresso like aspects in the finish.

October ’09 O-Town Throwdown, courtesy of BA trade. Pours dark brown, beige head. Aroma is malty, roasted and coffee. Flavor, roasted malts, plenty of coffee, light bitter mouthfeel, some chocolate with good espresso palate, light bitter chocolate/coffee finish. Low abv and still carries a good roast/coffee presence.

Draft @ KLCC Microbrew Festival: Pours a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is strong with coffee. Almost overwhelms the lighter notes of cocoa and roast. Flavor again is a shot of coffee with chocolate and roasted malts playing a minor role. A kick of bittersweet right in the end.
