Bottle. Very dark beer. Not as chocolately as I thought it would be. A little more bitter then I thought it would be. Otherwise a very good beer. Did taste the slight coffee flavor, didn’t really get the licorice that is sometimes mentioned. Will drink again. Recommended.

Older bottle from the cellar. Solid black with a thin tightly bubbled tan head that shows moderate retention. Roasty and rich chocolate aroma and flavor.

From May 2008

I bought this on my last trip to Colorado.

This pours black with a 2 finger head of tan foam. Some lacing and above average head retention.

The smell is mostly of roasted malt with a light chocolate smell. There's also some coffee that becomes stronger the more whiffs I take.

The taste has the coffee bitterness up front that's supported by roasted malt and a fairly light chocolate flavour. The bitterness is also very noticeable right before the finish which itself, has a bit of sweetness to it.

It has a medium mouthfeel and the alcohol is hidden pretty well; nice job done here as it has some good flavours going on and is fairly drinkable.

12oz bottle. Opaque brown-black. Soapy beige head. Aspirin dry cocoa aroma. Rich doughy chocolate flavor. Not as rich as a typical Imperial Stout.,but a little bigger than a straightforward Stout too. Sort of tame, uninspired. Decent enough.
