Hoppy? Brother, 471 IPA redefines hoppy. 471 is a small batch, limited edition ale that was created by our Brewmaster to separate the weak from the strong. 471 is a double IPA, that combines Pale, Munich, Caramel-30, Carapils and Torrified Wheat malts, with Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe and Fuggles hops. It has a big sweet mouthfeel, followed by more hoppiness than you've ever had at one time. Enjoy

Bottle: Poured a jello orange color with a white bubbles head. The aroma is hoppy. Taste is fruit and malt with loads of hops.

Growler from Vine & Barley. Pours golden orange color with off white head. Citrus and bread dough aromas. Lots of bitterness with some pineapple, grapefruit and some caramel. A little too much bittering hops for my tastes. Medium body with average carbonation.

Sampled on draft at the Rivertowne Pub this beer poured a dark orange-amber color with a small foamy off white head that lingers and produced great lacing. The aroma was strong fruity and floral hops with a citric undertone. The flavor was sweet pineapple, grapefruit, lemon and pine with a malty middle and a long complex hoppy finish and light caramel notes underlying. Full body. Well done.

8th October 2008. On tap at the Falling Rock. Clear amber beer, hoppy but fruity and sweet as well. On heady jet lagged somewhat drunken night pre GABF this beer shone and stood out clearly from the crowd. Lovely!

Bottle, $2.35 at Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Slightly cloudy amber with an inch of head. Light hoppy aroma - nothing stong, sour note. Thick grapefruit flavor with some pine and orange.

Bottle at the Bloomington Beer Festival. Poured hazy dark gold with a white head. Aroma was full of piney notes. Flavor began with a citrus hoppiness and became more piney towards the finish. A bit of an unpleasant metallic taste.

Lightly hazy golden orange with a creamy, off-white head. Strong caramel malts, and crisp hops in the aroma, though with this bottle being about a year old the hops have definitely fallen off a little bit. Pine and citrus are present, though. The flavor is very similar to the aroma. The bitterness is still there, but the hop flavor isn’t. Sweet malts come through with the bitter finish. A nice DIPA but, like most hoppy brews, is best enjoyed fresh and young. Still, a very solid brew.

Caramel and orange aroma, slightly yeasty. Cloudy golden with medium yellow sticky head. Full stinging mouthfeel, resinous generic bitterness. Obvious high alcohol content. Bittersweet horehound, other hard candies, yeast, and rotten oranges. There’s a lot happening, but I wasn’t able to find enjoyment in much of it.

Palate: Medium in body, nice mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I have an old rating of this from a trip to CO a few years back, I don't remember much about this one though, so I'll just have to input that rating for now, and re-rate if/when I try this one again. (3.8 Overall)
Updated rating: I'm barely even going to change my marks, but I guess I hadn't remembered the nose correctly, because it was a touch better then I had remembered. Let's boost the overall a touch too. Up to a 4.0.

pours golden and white head. Aroma is hoppy with a sugary nose and caramel malts. Taste, well hoppy and a good kick of the alcohol. Well balanced with the malt, light notes of fruits. I really dig this style of beer and the DIPA that doesn’t come across too hoppy.
