Purchased at Armanetti’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a nice Sunday afternoon while watching week 6 NFL football. Appearance a murky, cloudy brown with a thin off white head that rims around the glass. Aroma is definitely malty, hints of caramel, sweetness, a bit soft, can’t really get too much in the nose. Taste is rather heavy body, big caramel and toasted malt notes with a very small hint of sweetness, probably attributed to the cocoa. Medium carbonation, pretty smooth, in the past I’ve had this as a black&tan with Guinness and man that was pretty good. Solid brew, enjoyable.

On tap at the Buckhead Mellow Mushroom. Pours dark brown with a thin off-white head and lots of lacing. The aroma is great toasted and earthy malts, with notes of toffee, bread, and brown sugar. The flavor is very sweet, with just a little hop bitterness. The palate is medium, smooth, and easy. The carbonation is light, and the aftertaste is light and pleasant. Overall, this is an unassuming, but very tasty beer.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a glass. Pours a dark amber (not really brown), small tan head. Some lacing, medium carbonation, and medium body. Taste is light hazel nut, and some roasted malt, a hint of brown sugar and a slightly dry finish. Good for a brown ale.

Received in trade from Prototypic, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a solid brown with garnet highlights when held to light. Small mocha head sticks around for a bit. Smells of chocolate and a earthy nutty bready kind of thing going on. Tastes malty chocolaty faint bread and caramel. Mouthfeel is creamy, body is a little thin carbonation on the low side. Great little sessionable brown ale.

Whole Foods, DC six-pack ($11): Pours a ruby-brown color with a bubbly off-white head. Nutty, malty, and, yes, there are a few yeasty notes. Medium bodied. Obviously mostly malty. A chocolate note here in there, with some nuts, but not as many as a nut brown. Belgian feel. Some hops are detectable as well. Tingly mouthfeel. A solid brown ale, but I would have liked it to have more of a creamy mouthfeel.
