As the first brewery in America to have our own 18-hole disc golf course, it’s no secret we share a passion for brewing excellence and a love for the sport of disc golf. So, it was only a matter of time before we’d craft a beer to celebrate the two. Brewed with Chinook and Columbus then heavily dry-hopped with Citra and New Zealand Ekuanot, Hop Hyzer is juicy pale ale bursting with tropical fruit aromas and citrus flavors with a clean and mellow bitterness. And at only 4.9%, it’s the perfect beer to complement a casual round with friends or a weekly doubles match. Tee one up and you’ll see what we’re talking about.

Anderson Valley Brewing Company has been a long-time supporter of the sport through disc golf-themed promotions, regional tournament sponsorships such as the San Francisco Safari, and hosting the Annual Legendary Boontfling held each August here in Boonville, CA. We’re excited to see disc golf become one of the fastest growing sports in the world and will continue to support it for years to come.

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 4/23/2018. Pours slightly hazy medium golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/zest, green pepper, pine, cracker, white bread, light biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, green pepper, pine, cracker, white bread, light biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, green pepper, pine, cracker, white bread, light biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance; and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.9%. Overall this is a delicious American pale ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink; with the modestly bitter/drying finish, never aggressive. Nice body and not watery for the ABV. Great showcase of Citra, Ekuanot, Columbus, and Chinook. Very vibrant/dank hop complexity; nice bready malt backbone, with no residual sweetness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Can from Brewer's Haven. Hazy golden pour with one finger fluffy head. Musty, malty aroma. Taste is subdued, light grains and hops, very sessionable and not that hoppy. Nice feel too

Can from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours gold with a creamy/bubbly white head. Aroma is fruity hoppy. Somewhat tropical. Med body or so. Flavor is tropically juicy, and I think passionfruit might well be part of it. Complicated tho. There's some slightly roasty malt support. It's not really juicy, but it's undry like juicy, and it's hoppy bitter in a West Coast way. 4.9%? New favorite pool beer. Wowsas!

Pour is a clear golden with a large rocky white head. Aroma is some minor fruity hop that i can't find a descriptor for. Flavor is of a honey malt more than anything else. A late hop and average bitterness hit the tongue after the swallow. This was pretty light all around. Probably best for having when your doing something else during summer like regular or disk golf.

A: 5 week old can poured a finely hazed pale gold beer with a 1/2" head that held up very well and left clingy lacing. S: Very muted scent of pine or spruce and grapefruit pith. T: Bright and bitter hops lead with orange and grapefruit pith and pulp.Crisp cracker malts follow with a resinous pithy aftertaste. M: Light and crisply carbonated with a dry but lightly resinous finish. O: Maybe not terribly complex or distinctive but does all that's needed to please my tastes. Very nice.
