Refrigerated bottle poured into glass. Pours clear amber with small off-white head, light body, and very light malty aroma. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate and finishes light bitter hops. Pretty good.

Clear, slightly brown, copperish coloured body with a thin light brown head - doesn’t look too great. Aroma of malt, metal, blood and perhaps a hint of cardboard - nothing chocolatey at all here. Light-bodied; Strong nuttiness and some malty notes with a large dose of deep earthy bitterness and some odd funky characteristics with the smallest hint of decent chocolate - more along the lines of bad bitterness. Aftertaste shows that funky bitterness that is more like earth and dirt than chocolate - not too pleasant at all. Overall, not a great beer by any means and not one even worth drinking. I figured from the name of the beer that this one would be awful and I was correct - simply not a good beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York for US$1.19 on 18-November-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 04-January-2012.

Bottle #1 of 5 saranac brews I would get to have on surprise christmas eve party. Pours amber with big head that quickly dissapates. just right amount of chocolate hits you, also resin, caramel malt, and light hops bitterness. Not bad

12oz bottle. Filtered amber-brown. Thin, beige head. Mellow, doughy amber malt aroma, some brown chocolate. Some chocolate syrup notes, medium bodied, overall pretty enjoyable beer. Smooth and sweet, delicate, distant hop balance. Chocolate syrup finish. OK.

Pours a deep copper color with a stingy white head minimal retention and lace. Smells of caramel, butterscotch, Hershey’s chocolate syrup, light bit of roasted grains with little to no hop presence. Taste is sweet with chocolate, vanilla, caramel, hints of coffee. There’s barely any lupulin to be found in this brew and the sweetness builds because of it. Medium body and carbonation level with a creamy syrupy mouthfeel. Sweetness aside this is not a bad brew. The label claims they use cacao nibs in this, I was thinking it taste more like chocolate extract myself. I’ll bet this would be good over ice cream.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel color with a large foamy/creamy tan head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was faint sweetish malts and touches of cocoa and cream. The flavor was toasty with faint cocoa and vanilla cream with a bitter malt base and faint vague fruitiness. The finish was medium length, tangy vanilla cream. Medium body. Ok.

I’m really the first to rate this? Bottle from a sampler. Pours a clear amber with a thin tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toasted malts, nutty notes and chocolate. The taste is cocoa, some faint malts and a bitter finish. Thin bodied. Not liking this very much.
