Quite hazy golden and peach coloured body with a nice glow of raw honey amber. Aroma of grass, astringent, medicinal hops, some grapefruit,a dose of lemon and citrus and a big hit of grain and more biscuity malts. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong astringency up front with a large bitterness, not from the hops, but more from the alcohol and grapefruity characteristics and a dash of unfinished yeast, some stronger grain and a herbal/grassy finish that makes this deep, bitter and quite strong. Aftertaste shows the grain and grassy funky with a little of the hop bitterness, but mostly just from citrus, astringent qualities and a large grainy funk towards the end. Overall, a decently strong, but a bit assertive and overt bitter and funky quality that battles out any hops, but just leaves the medicinal, grapefruity bitterness that isn't necessarily what you'd want from the style at all. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can purchased from Trader Joe's in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 29-October-2018 for US$3,50 a few hours after finishing the USMC Marathon 2018, sampled at home in Washington on 25-November-2018 a bit less than a month later.
