ABV: 20.0% IBU: 100 Ticks: 25
Brewed in 2006, 2011, 2014 & now again in 2018, Colossus is known for its staggering ABV that has ranged from 17.3 to 21% This astounding alcohol content is achieved through fermentation alone; no alcohol is introduced at packaging nor is it distilled. Multiple grains are used in conjunction with three different yeast strains to produce a beer that simply defies classification… & most laws of nature. With a full body and a perceptively sweet flavor profile accented by notes of apple, as well as cinnamon sticks, orange peel and coriander which are added during the boil, it has a surprisingly tame alcohol presence on the palate that belies its staggering ABV.

Hefiger, sehr süßer Beginn, der dann zuckriger wird. Zu süß. Zuvor wenig alkoholisch, die Süße wird drückend. Kaum trinkbar. /11/8/7/6/7

Sample at the Central OH BA Tasting at From The Vine on 06/02/2012: This aptly-named beer is a dark reddish-amber color with a minimal white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of honey, dark fruit and malt. Tastes somewhere between and Mead and Port Wine if that is possible. The finish is syrupy and fruity. Interesting to say the least, and a nice sipper.

ChrisOs Kook Tasting. Slightly hazy dark amber beer. Light nose of sweet malt. Low carbonation. Semi soft and semi dry palate. Sweet malt and fruits. Subtle spicy cherry and strawberry. Dried fruits and subtle raisin. Mild caramel and then inevitable aniseed alcohol that is also quite sweet. Finishes a little warming but nothing like 22%!!. Sweet, strong and of surprisingly subtle flavours. Very dangerously drinkable!

Bottle shared at RBWG 2012. Pours a cloudy amber with small off white head. The aroma is a fruity malt and oak. Medium mouthfeel with a vanilla oak flavor and sweet finish. Alcohol present but not overpowering. A good American strong ale from DuClaw.

Overripe banana, grain, and apple aroma. Hazy ochre, thin head. Syrupy sweet banana, apricot, and triple sec flavor with triple sec strength. Apploe skins also detected. Extremely without balance, no hops. The alcohol is strong but palatable. Actually more drinkable than DFH 120, but with far less hops. Not awful, but I’d rather have more balance.
