Liquorice imperial Stout... Brewed as our 9 + 1 beer for De Molen's Borefts 2018 under strict recipe guidelines with the exception of one ingredient. Our chosen ingredient is liquorice. A sleek, black dangerous animal with decadent layers of roasted malt and deep dark reverberations of oily liquorice.

On tap at Borefts Beer Festival. De Molen Brewery, Bodegraven, Netherlands, Friday 21st September 2018. A sunshine and heavy showers sort of day. Pours pitch black with not too much of a head. Wow there is lots and lots of liquorice, a strung out light roasty and bitterness. Good but all about the liquorice. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Keg at IMBC 2018, session 2. Pours deep brown with a small, foamy tan head. Long on licorice, with some sweet chocolate, dark berries, light bitterness, light ashy roast. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, more cocoa, licorice, dried fruits. Solid.

Keg at IMBC. It pours opaque black with a tiny tan head. The aroma is massive liquorice, umami, leather, ashy, oily, slick, rich roasted malt and slightly medicinal vibe. The taste is intense sweetness upfront, then bitter, ashy, slick, charred, truck loads of liquorice medicinal, warming and dark chocolate. Fulsome body, fine carbonation and oily mouth feel.

Keg at indy man beer con. Session 2. A jet black coloured pour with a spotted dark tan head. Aroma is big black liquorice, black malts, burnt sugars. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, treacle, spotted dick, butter black roast, burnt sugars.. Palate is thick and chewy, medium sweet, moderate carbonation. Big black liquorice.

Sampled @ Borefts Beer Festival, Day 1. Opaque black color, small off-white to beige head. Smell and taste malts, dominant black liquorice (Dutch: zwarte drop sleutel), liquorice bitter, dark malts and quite some roast. Medium body and carbonation. Ok but overpowering black liquorice.

Sample @Borefts Beer Festival 2018, day 1 with [Zlotta/Sjogro/Maakun/Svartvit].zwart en kraagloos, aroma van erg veel zoethout, en drop, smaken zijn ook enorm veel drop tonen, laurier, zoethout, matig tot redelijk zoet, matig bitter, wat dun, glad, alcohol, maar iets té droppig, matige body.

Borefts 2018. Day 1. Sampled draft. Thank you for sharing! Black syrup. Nose is chocolate mocha, caramel, leaves, chocolate with some bark & dash of liquorice. Taste is way too black liquorice totally dominates mocha, chocolate, candy, all black liquorice. Liquid black liquorice beer. I don’t care for black liquorice.
