Brasserie d'Achouffe Houblon Chouffe IPA

Houblon Chouffe IPA

ABV: 9.0%   IPA - Belgian Out of Production
Highly sought-after by connoisseurs, Houblon CHOUFFE is a strong beer - 9% alc./vol., with a bitter and fruity taste. To recreate the bitterness of IPAs, we add three types of hops to our brews: Tomahawk, Saaz and Amarillo. Houblon CHOUFFE is the first Belgian IPA. Taste this magnificent beer and you can appreciate its subtle grapefruit note. This beer is also extremely popular as an ingredient in culinary dishes.

The gnomes of Fairyland may be little, but they have big, very big, personalities. HOUBLON CHOUFFE matches their impish spirits. All gnomes, with their innate good taste, are in full agreement about HOUBLON CHOUFFE, which is flavoured by three different types of hops. This India Pale Ale is appreciated for its pronounced bitterness combined with the fruity tones of traditional Achouffe beers: it softens the strongest of characters.

Bottle from Hogs Back Brewery shop. Aroma is very sweet - fruit sugar - with a boozy burn. Hazy-opaque gold. Thick fluffy foamy white head. Medium-heavy bitter. Resinous. Quinine. A sour edged which is actually quite vinous. Followed by a sugared citrus streak. Develops a real honey streak, albeit the booze makes me think of some sort of sore throat lozenge. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long finish described on the bottle as a cross between an IPA and a Tripel and mote of the latter for me.

Finally have the beer to match the glass, in a reversal of usual luck. Really solid IPA, definitely European. Been on a real Belgian kick.

Smell-weak to medium, hops, Belgian, weak caramel. Foam-thin, roast, bitter tones, hops, citrus. Head is large, white color. Appearance- beer-specific bottle cap, the label itself nice, but generic for the brewery.Clear orange-yellow amber, some active carbonation. From- snifter Price- 2,49 euros Taste- hops, Belgian yeast, acidic tones, weak sweetness, more hops, herbal, fruits. Quite hoppy, with citrus notes, Belgian yeast. Bit odd, but not bad. Not too easy drinking and a bit not up my alley.

Really good. Especially thirst quenching on a warm evening, with a vegan kebab on the way.
