Jake Smith, A.K.A, The White Buffalo, took a break from promoting his new album, “Shadows, Greys & Evil Ways,” to stop by the original Oskar Blues brewery in Lyons, CO to brew up a batch of “The White Buffalo West Coast IPA”—a sessionable, easy-drinking collaboration brew concocted after the California-based musician’s favorite style of beer.

“I love to drink,” said Smith, who together with a team of Oskar Blues brewers created a light-bodied, heavily-hopped West Coast-style White IPA featuring Centennial, Simcoe, and Galaxy hops. “I mostly drink IPAs, that’s why I wanted to create something light and drinkable. As a beer drinker, that’s what I’m drawn to.”

Draft pour at Taphouse. Pours a light yellow with a mild grassy aroma. Citrus hop front flavor to this really refreshing, light IPA. Soft, easy finish. Really liggt, but good flavor to it. Good beer.

On tap at the "River Room" Whole Foods, Boise. Slightly hazy quite light pale yellow. Dense rocky white head. Meringue like. Light citrusy aroma. Again light citrus and peel flavors with a very light malt body. Very nice "summer" IPA and would not have guessed a full 6% ABV. Refreshing.

Keg at BD, clear golden with a small white head. The nose is orange, sweet tangerine, floral, hay, earthy and light spice. The taste is soft, bitter, earthy, citric, minerals, spice, floral and a touch of grapefruit with a lingering crisp-dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Pretty soft and easy going, but not quite as big hitting as I had hoped for.

pale golden color. Very dry nose with wheat and hoppiness. The moth is uber dry with phenols and moderate hoppiness. I can’t really figure out what it wants to be. Decent

On tap at Bailey's, pours a hazy pale golden with a small white head. Aroma of metallic notes, dry citrusy zest, and biscuity notes. Flavour is more pleasant, bringing out dry citrusy zest, piney and floral hops, and super dry crackery malt. Extremely well-balanced, with no lingering sweetness or harshness. Excellent.

Sample at The Daily Growler UA during the "Oskar Blues Tap Invasion" event on 11/14/2013. Pours a hazy yellow-gold color with a medium thin fizzy white head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, hops and toasted malt. Light to medium body with flavors of zesty citrus, grassy hops and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a lingering citrusy hops aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
