Wild in character, with a slightly fruity aroma and a spicy yeast flavor that is as unique as it is satisfying –Matilda is an intriguing choice for beer and wine lovers alike. Dry and quenching, it’s the perfect accompaniment at the dining table or for casually socializing at the bar.

My original rating was for a 2007 vintage, but since I have up to a case of 2012 left, let's write about this. This bottle avoided gushing when I opened, that's a good sign. The small of pekoe tea and Belgian malt drifts up from my pour. Hazy, ruddy body with a thin ring of fizz. Taste has held up great after 13 years. Effervescence is prickly, Belgian light malt and maybe some candi sugar. Just a great example of Goose's originl "Belgian sisters."

Sample at Kurtkeller 009: Matilda-tastic 01 on 03/28/2014. Clear orange-amber pour with a medium white head that recedes steadily to a film. Short strings of lace. Aroma of Belgian yeast, clove and malt. Medium body with flavors of herbal yeast, spices, fruit, malt and earthy hops. The finish is funky yeast with a fruit and malt aftertaste. Solid beer overall.
