24/10/2018. Cask at the 41st Norwich Beer Festival. Pours very dark brown with a small short lasting beige head. Aroma of sweet liquorice, chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruits and more developing bitter liquorice. Moderate sweetness, medium plus bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Dry with a long lasting liquorice finish. Need to like liquorice to enjoy this one, which I do.

Cask-conditioned at the Gryphon, Bristol 24/2/2018. Near black amber in colour, with a moderately-sized, frothy, off-white, head. Leafy hops, a huge amount of chewy liquorice, toasty malts and a gentle finish. Enjoyable.

Handpull cask at the Geldart, Cambridge. Brown with indigo flecks through the translucency. Small but thick cream-coloured head and a fair bit of lacing. The smell is more like blackberry than liquorice: very fruity with notes of charcoal and burnt coffee grounds. Taste is bitter, with quite a lot of tar liquorice in the finish. Thinner body than I normally like for a stout, and the bitterness turns slightly astringent in the aftertaste. Not perfect but pretty damn good.

Dark amber - brown beer, small tan head. Palate is airy and dry with mild fine carbonation. Mellow dark malts, mild tang. Trace of creamy sweetness. The liquorice is light and well integrated. Smooth finish. Pretty drinkable.
