Brazil conjures up imagery of dense jungle and long white sandy beaches, probably with lager in hand. What you might not expect is long warm evenings, sat over an Imperial Stout with roasted cocoa nibs and coconut. This is a big chocolatey collaboration with prominent coconut character was borne from an award-winning recipe from the team at Sunset Brewery.

8 3 8 4 16Draft at Bierlokaal Uiver, Haarlem. Near black with a tan head. Aroma of coconut, chocolate, toffee, caramel. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

On tap at the Understudy in Southbank. No head to speak of and a very blackish brown body. Soft aroma of sweet chocolate. Flavour is loads of vanilla with roasted barley and chocolate brownie. Perhaps some cinnamon Christmas cake in there too. Medium finish, a little syrupy but otherwise pretty good for the abv. Not bad and not great.

Can from Cotteridge Wines; dark opaque black pour with a creamy tan head, aroma has coconut and chocolate, taste has desiccated coconut and chocolate, quite bitter, mouthfeel is a bit thin.

Keg at Fourpure, 02/08/18. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent beige cap. Nose is mellow roast, charr, coconut shavings, chocolate, light spice. Taste comprises chocolate, bounty bar, toffee, mellow roast, mellow barrel. Medium plus body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Solid well balanced and easy drinking impy.

Coconut imperial stout by Fourpure in collaboration with Sunset, draught at Billie's Bierkafetaria during the Fourpure tap takeover. Papery lacing, egg-white, dense and stable, closed head on a black beer with hazy mahogany edges. Aroma of caramel sauce, coconut flesh, chocolate liqueur, 'Chocotoff' candy, rum, kahlua, vanilla beans, hazelnut oil, mocha ice cream, dates, liquorice. Candied sweet onset, figs and dates, overripe pear, soft carbo, thick and creamy mouthfeel, full toffeeish and chocolatey maltiness with a pleasant, tropical note from aromatically sweet coconut; boozy, hot finish, rum and kahlua with a peppery hop note and coffeeish roasted bitterness. Tropically coloured 'impy', fun and modern, but intense and full-bodied as well. Very pleasant beer.
