A mouth-watering English stout, very well balanced and smooth. A combination of specialist malt gives it the biscuit, chocolaty, burnt notes at the start, then as the mouthful goes down you get the English hops breaking through giving you a burst of flowery tones. Leaving you with a taste you won’t forget, great for all year round.

Bottle from Tick Beer. Pours black with small beige head. Classic aroma of roasted malts with coffee beans, light ash and softer chocolate notes. Not much suggestion of fruitiness. Taste has a nice balance between sweet and roast flavours, dark chocolate comes through nicely. Fleeting hint of dark berries. Light to medium bodied but a nice smoothness to it. Lacks some serious complexity for dark beer connoisseurs. However, has a great flavoursome session quality to it which can be underrated. Could be great on cask. I found it very enjoyable.

Black with big fluffy head. Really strong bitter roasted malt flavour. Almost like treacle. Punchy. Touch of bay leaf in the aftertaste too.

Half-pint by cask at Jewellers Arms. Shared with Finn. Upper part lacing from a beige head. Pitch black in the glass. Inviting smell of roasted malts, hints of dark chocolate. Flavoured with black chocolate back by coffee hints towards the ending, nicely roasted. Decent stout. (Birmingham 06.02.2020).

Handpull cask at the Real Ale Shack, Warrington. Dark brown, just a touch translucent, with a creamy light tan head. Chocolate malt, yeast extract, ash and a little ground coffee in the aroma. Bitterness in the taste, which is tempered by the chocolatey sweetness. More lingering chalky hop bitterness in the finish with underripe blackberry, caramel and TCP in the aftertaste. As cracking a cask stout as you're likely to find.
