Our first Baltic Porter! A style we’ve always admired, but never yet brewed. We mashed this beer with a sizable bill of German barley and an assortment of special and roasted malts. It was fermented cold with our monastic lager yeast, and lagered in the cellar for many weeks.

Notes of homemade whole wheat raisin bread, star anise, burnt cookie bottoms, Thai basil, and some austere chocolate pudding.

Can from Source: pours blackish with beige head. Loads of dark chocolate and a sort of fruity coffee. Taste is sweet and chewy. Some light bitter notes. Really gets the chewy aspect down. Tremendously smooth body. Feels like 8% but drinks like a 5%.

16oz can. I had a pretty good feeling that F&M would nail a Baltic Porter, and they certainly did. Rich chocolate tone, very close to flavored stuff. Full bodied, but really clean and drinkable for the ABV. Sweet specialty malts, but well attenuated overall. Great.
