We took our citra-hopped birch-smoked grodziskie, and aged it in a Californian Riesling barrel, which might sound wacky enough, but that barrel previously held a Belgian Tripel on apricots! The result is smoke, a hint of tropical and stone fruit, gooseberries and a touch of woody vanilla.

Bottle at Joe's. Pours hazy orange, nose is huge white grape, vanilla, toffee, bit of smoked cheese, taste is brett funk, zesty grape, dry finish. Smoke is a little overshadowed by the barrel

Bottle from me subscription. Aroma has subtle yet chewy smoke alongside a spicy vinous edge. Hazy copper. Foamy white head. Medium-heavy bitter alongside a sour element. Smoke and vinous. Citra juiciness. The ginger from the previous barrel aging (same barrel used for a Ginger Tripel) also seemed to linger. Light. Thin. Soft lazy fizzy carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. Interesting stuff - Smoke and sourness combine with a sweet streak and it works.
