Music pairing – Ratt, Out Of The Cellar
Visual pairing – Blue Steel (1990)
It was while brewing and listening to some classic Ratt tunes we were suddenly hit with a wave of inspiration for the first 2024 beer pairing. In particular, it was the track ‘I’m Insane’ which made us think of Kathryn Bigelow’s 1990 release - Blue Steel (preceding her awesome Point Break). The Ratt song instantly reminded us of the psy -chotic lead character, Eugene (Ron Silver) and the movie’s edgy thriller vibe feels like a perfect fit for Copverse; a more bitter beer due to the hops having longer time in fermentation.

Can at home in the garden, with the normal clouds of doom above me, 16th June 24. Pours a hazy yellow, looks like a NEIPA. Aroma is grapefruit, stone fruits and light herbal. Taste is a bitter bomb, grapefruit and pith, herbal, love it, as it’s different, I don’t find it overly boozy as per other reviews, maybe it’s settled a bit. Good

440ml can. Hazy golden, white head. Aroma of citrus fruits and dank herb. Taste is very boozy and very bitter, big pithy citrus, grapefruit, dank herbal flavours. Not sure an 8% beer should be tasting this boozy, and the bitterness is rather extreme too, more than your typical west coast IPAs!

Can via the brewery subscription. Aroma has pineapple and coconut. Hazy pale yellow. Thick foamy translucent white head. Medium-heavy bitter. Stone fruit and herbs. Bitter citrus. Is their sweetness. I don't know. Booze. Medium bodied. Creamy. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. Big NEIPA which doesn't go full fruit juice to its advantage.
