Historien bag Strong Ale går tilbage til tidligere tider, hvor man bryggede øl i egetræsbeholdere, der ikke kunne opvarmes med åben ild. Man opvarmede og kogte dengang sit bryg ved at tilsætte glohede sten fra ildstedet.
Metoden resulterede i en helt særlig smag af karamel og let røg pga påbrænding på stenenes overflade.
På Thisted Bryghus opnår vi den samme smagsudvikling ved at opvarme lavasten til 800 grader, og sænke disse ned i den søde ølurt.
Strong Ale er en fyldig og varmende øl, som passer perfekt til kraftigere varme madretter.

50 cl bottle. Pours hazy orange, small tan head. Aroma is toasted malty, caramelish. Slight malty, fruity and light herbal. Bitter and dry. Bitter and fruity finish.

bottle from meny valby. clear brown smooth offwhite to light brown head. nutty, malty, slightly smoked aroma. flavor is bitter from alcohol, caramel, spicy herbal'ish note like anise or licorice root. does not come off as balanced, does not taste that good with the alc and herbal bitterness.

Bottle. Pours haze chestnut with large offwhite head. Aroma is malt, caramel, toffee and rye bread. Taste is medium sweet, faint to light bitter and faint acidic. Body is light oily with soft carbonation. Finish is medium long and sweet with notes of malt, caramel, brown sugar, rye bread and hints of peated malt.

Bottle 500ml. @ home.[ As Thisted Bryghus Strong Ale ].Light unclear medium to dark amber colour with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, sweet malt, caramel, caramelized malt. Initial flavor is moderate sweet, finish flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to light light heavy bitter with a long duration, caramelized malt, caramel, sweet malt, sugary, malt and hop bitter, phenol. Nearly clear amber, airy light beige head. Malty, caramely aroma. Flavour is the same, a tiny hint of smoke, lasting rough bitterness and the usual Thisted metal.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours an almost clear, deep amber with a smallish, off-white head. Nose has caramel and an edge of rough smoke. Rich, malty body, greasy caramel, again these smoky notes, a slight tartness and a rough bitterness. A big dumb, bully of a beer offering no pleasure or refinement whatsoever. 190219
