This The Shipcarpenter tripel is a heavy tripel. Heavy, but smooth at the same time. It has been aged on tawny port casks for nearly a year. Portwine and dark fruits are nicely balanced with the 9.5% alcohol. The nose has hints of fresh wood and dried fruits.

Clear golden appearance with lasting head. Aroma has lots of wood and yeast. Flavour is quite sweet but also very grainy. The jammy fruitiness from the barrel comes through well.

Bottle. Color: Lightly hazy amber, thin white head. Aroma: Malty, yeasty, Port notes. Taste: Starting malty, yeasty but in a few seconds changing to fruity Port notes and after some more seconds the combination of both. Finishing a bit more to the Port notes site. This is a rather unusual beer - barrel combination and I believe it should be quite hard to get a good balance of these two, but De Magistraat nailed it in my opinion. Very well done. Good brewery.
