Bière de garde, or "beer for keeping", is a rustic French style amber ale. Leading with aromas of caramel and toasted biscuit, the malty sweetness is perfectly balanced with a crisp, clean finish. The amber color inspired the name, dedicated to the Reed Brothers Brickyard, which opened in Hightstown in the early 1900's.

16oz can pours a clear, dark orange with some white head. Nose has malt, candy sugar, yeast, phenols. Flavor is phenolic, yeasty, malt, some red fruits. Creamy finish. Fine.

DC Share. 16oz can. Poured a mostly clear, apple juice dark orange color with a small, wispy off-white head. Aroma was big sweet malts, like rally sweet. Some cardboard, oxidation. Light caramel malts, touch of yeast.

Citrus and florals. A little too syrupy and sweet. Golden amber pour with ok head. Kind of a tangy caramel like sweet finish that isn't very pleasant. Can.

16oz can. Sort of an odd aroma, not that enticing. Comes off like an amateur try at the style. No finesse, borderline off. Has some flavors of the style but not that good at all.

16 ounce can from brewery. Tawny amber brown color. Large firm, frothy beige head. Earthy toasted malt aroma hints at brewed Orange pekoe tea, plums and dried apricots. Tangy, sweet orange notes upfront. Toffeeish malt and Demerara sugar come to mind. Some booziness in middle. A bit of stickiness on the palate. Dry finish has a touch of bitter citrus. I love the Biere de Garde style, though it is quite difficult to find. This is an outstanding example.

16 oz can from the brewery, 4/19/21. Pours a clear burnt amber color with a beige head. Nice malt-forward offering with toffee, biscuit, dough, and a little earth coming through. Drinks fairly clean, not overly sweet, just a touch sticky, and with the heat of a lower ABV beer. Tasty stuff.
