Viva Patron might be the most unique beer of the set, utilising both coffee beans and ‘Midnight Oil’, a cold brew concentrate from Climpson and Sons. This 8% Dark Ale is black as the night sky, and incorporates tequila-soaked oak into the brew, with added sweetness from agave syrup and Muscovado sugar. We’ve used Climpsons’ ‘The Baron’ coffee beans for this beer; and we’re certainly no stranger to them as they feature in our Broken Dream Breakfast Stout range. This is a true coffee liqueur experience in a beer.

440ml can. Pours a very dark brown almost black, small beige head. Aroma of coffee, dark malts, some sort of sugary syrup and spice/wood. Taste of coffee, brown sugar, syrup, herbal, woody, chocolate, roasty and bitter finish. Medium bodied, lighter than it perhaps should be at this strength.

Hazy, very dark red-amber beer with a lively off-white head which fizzles down to a film. Smells predominantly of cold brew coffee. Flavour has intense, dry coffee with a big hit of spirits-y woodiness and a whack of malt. A bit more alcohol burn than I'd care for, could do with more of the other flavours balancing that out a bit a touch more sweetness. I'm not getting much of the sugar or syrup which is noted and the tequila comes through a bit more strongly than is to my taste. It's nice, but not fully for me.
