Pours dark brown/near black with small beige top. Aroma has big coffee notes mixed with dry roast, slight sour dark berry hint, some chocolate. Taste brings all this together well - bitter coffee and roast to begin, then a sweetness with creamy to dark chocolate, hint of berry and nuts, then back to a bitter coffee finish. Medium bodied, slightly chewy, not overtly rich.

440ml can at the Rook & Gaskill, York September 2023. Near black in colour, with a creamy, beige, head. Big coffee character upfront, followed by liquorice and then a long lasting chocolate sweetness, leading to a warming finish. Very good.

440ml can from St Albans beer shop, St Albans, Herts. An almost black coloured pour with a huge beige head on top. Roasty, malty, coffee, slight chocolate taste and aroma. Big bitter coffee in this, no sweetness. Quite decent but overly bitter for me.

Can at home picked up from HOTM. A clear chestnut brown coloured pour with a lasting fine light tan head. Aroma is woody earthy roast, bark, cut grass, pine sap, light ash. Flavour is composed of bitter earthy roast, charred earth, little mushroom, light ash, robust roasted barley. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, moderate carbonation. Nice big lingering robust bitter roast.

Can from... hmm... somewhere... Aroma had coffee and malts. Slightly sour milky edge. Dark cola brown. Thick fluffy foamy light beige head. This beer gets off to a slow start before ramping up. Bitter. Roasty coffee. Liquorice. Underlying salted caramel. Medium bodied. Creamy. Long astringent finish. Enjoyable chewy Baltic Porter.
