On tap at Dovetail, pours a deep dark amber-finger brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out gentle smoke, lots of deep caramel malt, and some burnt toffee. Flavour is rich, with lots of caramel, burnt toffee, bready malt, and moderate smoke. Really nice, deep malt profile that never ends on complexity. Excellent.

16oz can. Intense stuff. Montrous body, very chewy. 9.7%. Sort of too big and bold for a German beer. Sort of like a Schlenkerla pastrified...there is a lot of chocolate brownie tone going on, more chocolate than classical smoked malt tone to me. Big, bold, original, but maybe a little too intense to drink often.

16oz can pours a dark cola brown with a few bubbles of tan head. Tootsie roll on the nose, earth and smoke. Raisin and some prune in the mouth but not much else. The rauch really isn't on the tongue much. Dry and merciful finish. Simple. 6 3 6 4 11

Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a clear dark amber brown with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice smoke and sweet grain notes with a touch of earthiness. Flavor has a nice smoke with a light sweetness and bread supporting.
