500 ml. Aroma has notes of hazelnut coffee, caramel, chocolate, maple syrup, licorice. Pours inky black with a half finger beige head that falls into a ring quickly. Taste is highly sweet with flavors like the aroma descriptors. Good in small doses, but way too sweet to want much more than that.

Capped 500 from the brewery. Pours dark brown black with a very slight dark tan head. Aroma starts with coffee, then smooth toasted malt, and a hint of vanilla. Not getting whiskey or oak. Extremely full bodied. Thick and slippery. Flavor is smooth burnt malt, whiskey (doesn't seem bourbon), coffee, vanilla. Not dry; not sticky. Suddenly I'm getting some maple. Then maple seems to almost dominate. Heat is something that doesn't stand out. As all the strong flavors flow away, I think I can get oak astringency. Lots of mystery in this surprisingly complex brew.
