The best drink under the sun
Allsopp’s Pale built the Company, but Allsopp’s Pilsner broke it. After the biggest debut on the stock market in 1887, then CEO Percy Allsopp spent the funds raised building the country’s first lager brewery – an enormous state-of-the-art facility. Alas, Percy was half a century early – the Brits had yet to develop a taste for lagers. By 1911 Percy was fired and the Allsopp family was turfed out of the Company.

tasting notes
Expect delicate malt notes reminiscent of bread and mild honey. This is balanced by a clean bitterness stemming from the classic Hallertau Hursbrucker hop.

Can from Beer52. Clear gold, small white top, average retention. Aroma is sweet with pale malts, light flora and apricot. Taste has a nice fruitiness with grapefruit, apricot, flora, a bit peppery. Soft medium body. It has a nice crisp bite so probably can just about qualify as a pilsner. Enjoyable.

Can bought at Utobeer, Borough. Aroma is sweet - citrus and dough. Hazy gold. Foamy white head disappears almost entirely. Sour citrus followed by caramel and dought malts. However it's the sourness that is to the fore throughout. Light-medium bodied l. Slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. It's fine.

[33cl can from Beer52.] A bright straw coloured pour with a thick white head; grassy aroma with a touch of lemon; grainy body; and a grassy bitterness to finish. A classic Pils, or at least a classic English attempt at a Pils.
