Can from the brewery. Aroma had caramel and creamy chocolate. Opaque chestnut brown. Creamy/bubbly beige head. Light-medium bitter - resinous hops combine with bitter herbs and black coffee. Citrus develops. Medium bodied. Slick to creamy. Average carbonation. Long astringent finish. Big hoppy Brown Ale. No watery caramel here.

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours a murky burgundy with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. There’s pine resin in the aroma plus some hints of dark fruits. In the mouth the instant assessment is “gravy” – but it gets a lot more complicated after that ! The texture is creamy and fruity with grains (both oats and rye). Flavour has plums, cherries, treacle, parkin and nuts, all with some lingering hoppiness underneath. Some alcoholic strength in the finish, plus malts and fruit. This is very drinkable.

[Cask at the Nags Head, Reading.] An opaque dark coffee coloured pour with a loose beige head and a reddish glint; fresh resinous hop aroma; smooth in the mouth with a sweet lactic body nicely balanced by some assertive piney hops; that give a lasting bitter finish. Excellent.
