Old Primeval is the nickname of a giant snapping turtle who has long roamed the waters of Georgian Bay. It felt like a fitting title for this Barrel Aged Imperial stout, which spent 15 months in Rye barrels from Templeton and Willett Distillery. Neither beer nor turtle is to be trifled with.

Bottle pour at FHF 2024, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is rich, with big bourbon barrels, some spicy rye, and earthy roasted malt. Flavour is rich and complex, with big bourbon barrels, lots of sweet brown sugar, some earthiness from the eye. Very sweet, almost a bit too cloying, but it works in small amounts. Excellent.
