A positive combination of Fuji cider, slow-roasted farro, a bit of cayenne and fresh cilantro.

This beer part of our Music Series of beers... this one is an amalgamation of hip-hop, beer, cider and a DIY culinary experience! Sam and Dan the Automator of Deltron 3030 teamed up to create Positive Contact, based on Dan's favorite ingredients and Dogfish Head's innovative brewing practices.

Named after a key track on the first album, Positive Contact is a 9% ABV hybrid of beer and cider brewed with Fuji apples, roasted farro, a handful of cayenne peppers and a late dose of fresh cilantro. This sweet-and-sour Belgian-ish brew is a light straw color with fruity, cider-like notes. The cayenne and alcohol give it a warming finish.

For the inaugural release (2012), the beer was packaged in a dynamic box set of six 750-ml champagne bottles, with a 10-inch vinyl EP of four new Deltron 3030 remixes created exclusively for this project, and a list of Deltron 3030-inspired recipes from a small group of renowned chefs. Subsequent releases did not include the vinyl or recipes.

Bottle at Flying Saucer Beerfeast. Pours a cloudy orange with no head. The aroma is a fruity malt and clove. Medium mouthfeel with sweet malt and light spice in the finish. Easy to drink a good fruit beer from Dogfish Head.

Bottle. Almost clear golden liquid with medium egg shell white head. Massive amount of huge yeast chunks. Aroma of clove, wheat, some sweet fruit, bubblegum, grain and spices. Some tangerine as well. Taste is dry and light bitter with notes of cloves, spices, banana, apples and sweet fruit. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. A bit ciderish. Refreshing and drinkable. Very weissen/witbier like but with a cidery touch.

Location: 750 ml Bottle shared from jcos, 11//15/12

Aroma: The nose is Belgian yeast, spice/coriander/clove, a little banana/fruit, apple, and wheat
Appearance: Pours a clear orange color with a lasting foam of white head that leaves fairly heavy lace
Flavor: The taste is much like the nose, fairly sweet, with a nice spice component, and minimal bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, has a creamy feel, fairly clean too, with a soft carbonation, and a spicy finish
Overall Impression: I have to say, if the description didn't say this was a cider-hybrid I never would have guessed it. It tastes (doesn't look, but tastes) a lot like a nice Belgian Wit to me. I actually thought it turned out really well, a top quality example of the style I only thought it was...

Bottle at Craft Beer Co Tasting, thanks to Mike. It pours clear light yellow, with a thin white head. The nose is icing sugar, sweet apple, pear drops, straw and some smoke. The taste is sweet malt, sugar, light chilli/cayenne pepper, dough, straw, over-ripe apple and hay, with a sweet finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Too sweet. Rather odd….

Bottle shared at the Craft Beer Co. - Clerkenwell, London, many thanks to Mike! Pours clear, yellow-gold with a good and sturdy white foam head. Lots going on in the nose, herbs and spices, coriander, doughy wheat, yeast. Medium to big sweet flavor with heavy wheat and yeast, faint lemon, white sugar. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish, lightly warming, with lots of sugary dough, yeast, white bread. It’s tasty stuff, if a bit sweet.
