Dogfish Head has been brewing off-centered ales for off-centered people since 1995, with inspiration from every facet of life - the spice cabinet, music, even art.
What you have here is a serious India Pale Ale shacking up and hunkering down with mango and apricots. At the same time! Romantic Chemistry is brewed with an intermingling of mangos, apricots and ginger, and then dry-hopped with three varieties of hops to deliver a tropical fruit aroma and a hop-forward finish.
It’s fruity, it’s hoppy, it’s tasty!

Bottle pour into tulip glass from Andover Liquors (no born on date so don’t know when it was brewed but it is the 2016 edition). Aroma is solid bready/cracker malt base with floral/fruity hop overlay. Appearance is clear copper orange with trace sparkle and 1/2 finger width creamy off-white head with poor retention and fair lacing. Taste is sweet fruit and malts. Palate is medium bodied with slightly sticky texture and lively carbonation (a little too strong and dominates the drinking experience) with abrupt finish. Overall, a decent brew high on refreshment but not terribly complex nor strong (in aroma or taste).

Bottle from Candia Rd Pours a mostly clear deep golden color with a bubbly off white head that persists. Caramel malt base, some stone fruit, earthy pine to counter. Quite sweet, just ok.

Pour is a clear orange with a large white head. Aroma is a mango fruitiness with some malt sweetness and some apricot as well. I never thought I would smell mangoes and apricot together in a beer but here we are. Flavor is more of a citrus fruit with a big bitterness. Finish is dry but there is not much of a hop presence. This is more of a fruit beer than anything. Decent for a sample but nothing I need again.

Bottle: Clear, copper-orange with a thin, off-white head. Mango, apricot scent. Taste is sweet, fruity, apricot, mango, tangerine.....a bit of gigngery spice. Not much hop bittering , just a light touch of pine. Pretty tasty, though.

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma is fruity with mango, citrus, and apricot. Taste is citrus, mango, and apricot and has a nice malt base. The ginger is also apparent. Not unduly piney and bitter, which is a plus in my book. Decent.

Clear gold with a generous off-white head. Peachy fruity aroma. Kinda weird fruit juice and beer flavor and mouthfeel. watered down. This kind of disaster is normal for DFH but usually in a bigger bottle.

Pours deep gold into a tulip. Bright white head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Caramel and clove aromas. Sweet caramel and resin upfront turning to yeasty clove in the lasting finish.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours coppery gold with a white head. Mixed fruit aroma. Med body at least. Flavor is apricot, mango, ginger - as advertised. The ginger is pervasive - the others tend to fall away til the next quaff. Somehow it’s a bit dusty. Which seems tied to the apricot. Very interesting, but it could use more apricot IMHO. Not very dry, and only lightly bitter.
