Dogfish Head has been brewing off-centered ales for off-centered people since 1995, with inspiration from every facet of life - the spice cabinet, music, even art.

What you have here is a serious India Pale Ale shacking up and hunkering down with mango and apricots. At the same time! Romantic Chemistry is brewed with an intermingling of mangos, apricots and ginger, and then dry-hopped with three varieties of hops to deliver a tropical fruit aroma and a hop-forward finish.

It’s fruity, it’s hoppy, it’s tasty!

Pours a copper amber from a bottle, somewhat vaguely fruity aroma, similar flavor, can’t really get a bead on this beer. Meh.

12 ounce bottle. Orange copper pour. Large frothy beige head. Faint sweet fruit malt aroma. First sip is a cascade of flavors. Notes of ginger, apricot and mango are there, though not overpowering. There are some citrus hops as well. There is a caramel maltiness in the middle. The fruit and malt seem to dominate and the hops take a back seat. Unusual for an IPA. Spicy hops in finish and aftertaste redeem this brew. As always, Dogfish Head continues to innovate and push the limits.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on the first evening after DST. Appearance is a reddish amber with a robust frothy white head. Aroma of fruit, mostly apricots, moderate hoppiness. Taste is decent, mangos come out more, it’s kind of a belcher.

Sample at 1808 American Bistro. The beer is a dark golden color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Fruity and floral aroma with a touch of hops. Medium body with flavors of apricot, grassy hops and malt. The finish is fruity with a tropical fruit aftertaste. Decent overall.

12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled in 2/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear deep orange/amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, ginger, light pepper, pine, light caramel, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops, fruit/spice, and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, ginger, light pepper, pine, light caramel, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon/orange peel, light pepper, pine, bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, fruit/spice, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky, and lightly creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good fruit/spiced IPA. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, fruit/spice, and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Pine, grapefruit peel, mango, apricot, and toffee malt aroma. Amber with large off-white head. Mildly sweet apricot, mango, toffee malt, and mildly bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Good body. Pretty good but fruit nearly overwhelms the hop flavor.

Tap @ numbers in Lisbon. Slight BO aroma. Strong IPA flavors from the start tho it seems the palate is a little more watery than a straight IPA. Surprisingly good cutting co2 on the palate. This makes like very very other IPA. Cannot really sense the fruit in this because of the overriding IPA flavor backbone.
